How Do Dental Inlays and Onlays Work?
1. Preparation
We thoroughly examine and clean your affected teeth to remove decay or old Amalgam Fillings. Our specialists will then numb the area with a local anesthetic to ensure comfort during the procedure. The damaged tooth structure is prepared by removing the necessary portion of the tooth.
2. Impression
After preparation, a precise impression of your actual tooth is taken. This impression is sent to our in-house lab, where the custom inlay or onlay is fabricated. During this time, a temporary restoration or temporary inlay or onlay may be placed to protect your tooth.
3. Placement
Once the custom dental inlay or onlay is ready, usually within a couple of weeks, you’ll return for the final placement. The temporary filling is removed, and the inlay or onlay is bonded onto the tooth. We then polish it to ensure a smooth finish and natural color, restoring your tooth’s strength and function.
